Our food is best enjoyed while dining in. We prioritize dine in guests and cannot guarantee the time it takes to prepare a takeout orders, especially large ones due to our kitchen layout. Due to this, we kindly reserve the right to pause all to-go orders at anytime to take care of dine in guests when busy. Thanks for your understanding!
We're a small shop with a kitchen layout segmented into 3 sections. The fryer/4 burner stove top, our grill, and sushi section. If one section is facing higher ticket count than the other, food wait times for the section items may be higher. We have one person making all special & classic sushi rolls so please be patient! We highly encourage people to try a variety for this reason and enjoy all of Mokutan's offerings!
Our head chef, Ken-san, has 27+ years of experience cooking various restaurants, bringing his own flair to our menu. He was born in Fukuoka, Japan & arrived to the US when he was 25 years old. After formal sushi chef training in San Francisco, he made his way to Santa Barbara in 2006 & has been working in the county since. He is excited to present his culinary vision to you and all our guests.

We refuse to compromise on quality in our restaurant. That's why we source our fresh ingredients and get our inventory 2 days a week & offer limited-quantities on certain items. If things sell out, then you know it's fresh. No matter what time of year, you can be sure you're eating the best of the season with our rotating specials and izakaya-style menu.
